There Is More to Life Than the Next Milestone

22 SEPT 2025

I have spent a lot of my life thinking about what comes next. The next goal, the next opportunity, the next version of myself, the next thing that needs to happen. There is always something ahead that feels important enough to justify putting everything else aside for a little longer. And sometimes that mindset is necessary. Ambition requires a certain amount of tunnel vision. But I have also started wondering what happens if you spend too much of your life waiting for the next thing. There are conversations that happen only once. People change. Friendships evolve. Moments disappear without announcing that they were important. I think I have become more conscious of that recently. I still want to build ambitious things. I still want to challenge myself and see how far I can go. But I don’t want my entire life to become a series of milestones that I am constantly trying to reach. I want to remember the ordinary parts too. The random conversations, the evenings when nothing particularly happened, the people who were there before any of the achievements mattered. Maybe the goal is not to become less ambitious. Maybe it is to become ambitious without constantly postponing life until I reach the next version of it.
